So the Daily Texan has a multimedia department and they make videos for the web. Until today they were in a quicktime format that was slow and if you owned a PC you didn’t get to watch them.
NOW the web site has a FLASH player that makes it much easier to view the videos and it is accessible by a much larger audience! The videos are also archived now, which rules.
So go check out today’s videos. Or yesterday’s. Or last semester’s. Because they are all there. In the new flash player!!
So I’m going to try this new thing where I make my posts themed for the day. I realize that when I post this, it will technically be Thursday but I haven’t slept yet so for me it is still Wednesday. And Wednesday is the day (get excited) where I will be sharing various web sites that I think are cool and I hope that you think are cool too.
Coincidentally, today’s web site happens to start with a ‘w’ and makes the fun little alliteration even more fun. Enough english nerdiness, check out www.woot.com.
Basically, there is a really cool item for pretty cheap each day. It updates around midnight each night so now you have an excuse to stay up late. And if tehno-gadgets aren’t your thing, you can check out woot’s sister site that offers a t-shirt for $10 and free shipping. The t-shirts change daily also and are usually pretty amazing.
I don’t know enough about iPhone’s to really understand how this works. But I do know that it is probably the coolest thing I have seen an iPhone do and now I want one. Rock Band on a phone can only lead to fun.
Rumor has it this trio of ‘rockers’ may release another hit in the next few weeks.
These pictures share nothing in common except that I took them. I was going through old pictures and I thought I would share a few. Enjoy.
This is my roommate Leanne. I’m not particularly proud of the picture but I think it’s pretty awesome that she is standing on the bike. I would have fallen had I attempted it so I made her do it. That pretty much sums up our incredible friendship.
This is my friend Alexis. I think that this should be a Dolce & Gabbana ad. That way I’d be a famous high-fashion photographer of sorts. And that would be pretty neat.
This is the pier in Matagorda, TX. They had just re-built it after a hurricane. It also happens to be one of my favorite places in Texas (other than Austin of course.)
America can relax, their favorite prime television shows will likely return by this spring. That’s right, after 100 days, the writers have voted to end their strike.
According to the New York Times, a main reason a conclusion was reached is a provision that allows for the guilds to get a gain in payment for digital distribution of entertainment. Any money would benefit the writers, who are estimated to have suffered a loss of $285 million in wages since the walkout on October 22. The last writer’s strike in 1988 lasted five months. Had the 2007 strike lasted as long, the total economic damage would have been close to $2.5 billion.
On to the most important part of the end of the writers strike. How fast will we be getting our drama and comedy back on TV? And will your favorite show even be coming back? The LA-Times has a nice chart with each major stage and their shows.
So I’m really excited but not surprised that Gossip Girl will be back on The CW with new episodes this spring! If you don’t watch Gossip Girl, you should. It may look like the OC all over again but the writing is great and it is totally entertaining.
I’m a little bummed out that 24 may be put off until next season. But it will give me time to catch up on the episodes I’ve missed (a few seasons worth). And my guilty pleasure, Brothers & Sisters (shh don’t tell anyone) looks like it will be back on ABC pretty quickly.
I wonder what will happen to all the new reality TV shows currently filling up the space. I mean, what would America do without this sort of entertainment too?
Get ready Texans, thanks to a vote made by 455,000 Texas citizens on Texas Department of Transportation Web site, we’re getting a new license plate. The bad news is, it’s pretty ugly.
It looks to me like someone made a list of words that reminded them of Texas and then put their visual equivalents on one mess of a license plate. Maybe I’m just being too hard on it. The runner-up, called Natural Texas, received a meager 294,000 votes but is much nicer in my opinion.
The whole reason behind the re-design is to add an additional digit/letter to the original six-digit license plate. The official decision for the new license plate will be announced on February 28 after TxDOT has verified that all votes were accurate. You can check out all the contenders on the e-vote site.
And if you want to really pimp out your ride you can order a specialty plate.
This one’s my favorite, only because I find it hilarious.
Well, it’s Lent. And everyone is giving up their favorite food or activity so they can suffer like Jesus did in the desert. Or so they can go on a diet without looking like they are actually dieting. I’ve never really been a big participant in the season but this year is a big year for me. I’m giving up gum.
It started as sort of a challenge by a friend of mine as we sat in the kitchen talking and he realized I had chewed eight pieces of gum in less than two hours. Clearly, I had a problem. After a little research I found some surprising information about excessive gum chewing.
Gum in Europe carries a warning label stating that “excessive consumption may cause a laxative effect.” American labels warn that gum is not a low calorie food — huh?
So back to the issue of me. I have been a gum chewer for years and recently have upped the intake to about two packs a day. Last night around 11:30 I enjoyed my last piece of gum because today I went cold turkey. It hasn’t been too bad so far but the craving could strike at any moment. Anyone know of a good 12-step program for gum addicts?
For some final gum-related fun check out this awesome 80’s commercial for Trident’s sugar free gum.
